Your generous donations on Giving Tuesday will help defray production costs for our upcoming concert on January 25, “Carmen at 150: Opera Choruses & Scenes.” This thrilling program, featuring the Washington National Opera Orchestra and soloists from the Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artist program, will be a dramatic evening of passion, obsession, betrayal, and revenge! Highlights include Artistic Director Erin Freeman’s curated “Carmen in miniature”—with all your favorite arias, duets, choruses, and orchestral moments (everything but the bull!)—followed by beloved opera choruses and duets by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, and more.
The City Choir of Washington returns to Alexandria’s flagship performance space, the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall, with our hallmark artistic projected titles to create a more enjoyable and immersive concert experience for patrons. City Choir is delighted to be able to once again support some of the brightest young opera stars of tomorrow and to feature the Washington National Opera Orchestra in its element, and we need your help to make this ambitious programming possible.
The donation levels below illustrate some of the costs involved in mounting a concert. Your Giving Tuesday contributions will help make this concert possible, measure by measure! Here are some examples of what your contribution will support:
$26: Covers the cost of music for our brilliant accompanist, Peter Uhlir
$49: Covers the cost of cartage for one double bass of a Washington National Opera Orchestra musician
$120: Covers the cost to project titles for the “Habanera” from Carmen
$248: Pays for five measures of music in Verdi’s “Va, pensiero”
$435: Covers the cost of a roundtrip plane ticket to DC for one of our Wolf Trap Studio Artist soloists
$1,174: Covers two minutes of music during the concert (including venue rental, orchestra, recording, score rental and copying, and the myriad behind-the-scenes details that make City Choir concerts unforgettable experiences.)
